Exactly why should the Council be deciding what to do with a private sector business? If customer demand for a takeaway exists, then a takeaway should be supplied according to market forces – not the will of the local government. Issues like this are becoming a means for councils to appear busy doing something, and as such they’ve referenced environmental health as a reason for intervention. However, the council seems to be overstepping the mark here since it should not decide on public health matters through subjective debate but rather a set of objective criteria; incidentally the latter approach was adopted in the report proposals, but the former will still be taken for apparently no reason. For a supposedly Conservative council, on issues like this they behave worse than command-state socialists.
